| Summary, etc. | Margaret Mead (1901-1978) und Gregory Bateson (1904-1980) gehörten in den 1930er und 1940er Jahren zu den führenden Vertreter*innen der Cultural Anthropology in den USA. Die Anthropologie bot ihnen nicht nur einen Schlüssel, um das Verhältnis von »Culture« und »Personality« besser zu verstehen, sondern diente ihnen ebenso als Werkzeug, um die amerikanische Bevölkerung auf den Zweiten Weltkrieg einzustimmen und ihre Feinde zu bekämpfen. So glaubte das Wissenschaftlerpaar daran, dass nur durch Arbeit an der Kultur der Aufbau einer friedlichen Welt gelingen könne. Diesen Selbst- und Weltdeutungspraktiken spürt Thilo Neidhöfer am Beispiel ihrer Ehe nach. |
