The Ampelos episode is a key scene in the Dionysiaca of the late antique poet Nonnus. Through the death and transformation of the satyr Ampelos, Dionysus is provided with his major attributes: wine and the vine. The goal of this book is to determine the poetic language and technique of the Dionysiaca through a detailed literary analysis of this episode, and to place it in its late antique context.
